Enoshima and Kamakura

We visited Enoshima and Kamakura with our sister (-in-law).

We rode on the Shonan Monorail from Ofuna. We used "Kamakura-Enoshima Pass" with which we can ride on the JR line (from Ofuna to Kamakura, or Fujisawa), the Enoden, and the Shonan Monorail any time on the same day. It was 680 yen for an adult.

Ofuna Kannon (Buddha). I would like to visit there some other day.

He soon found the Gatcha of Enoden, capsule Plarail toy. There were two bad wind-ups among several trains we got:-(

Enoshima! It was still hot and it's not easy to go to the island on foot with our son, we didn't go there.
And Carl repeated "The water of Japanese sea is hot!" again... I picked up shells to use for gardening. And our son, he was scared and didn't move from the place about 10 meters away from the sea.

Enoden.

Daibutsu (big buddha) in Hase. It'd been a while for me too. We wanted to have lunch at the restaurant where we visited last time, but it was closed on that day so we found another one. It was good and the lady at the restaurant was kind to our son.
He calls the buddha "Ookii buddha" (ookii means "big"), half-Japanese and half-French. But it sounds to me like "big swine" in Japanese.

I was totally sure that Pierre would be scared so we didn't get inside.

TOKYO SKY TREE & Moomin House Cafe

Carl's sister took holiday and came to Japan!
So we went out almost everyday while she's here for ten days and we also enjoyed our "holiday". First of all, we headed to the latest sightseeing spot, Tokyo Sky Tree!

266235_10151095174516553_213736108_
It's a tall TV tower! We got off at Oshiage station and soon found the tower. It's more than 600m tall! And there were full of people even though on a weekday. However, our purpose wasn't the tower...but shopping!

We came across a festive march of a local shrine. Lucky us! We were excited to see the cow carriage.

Here he is! Rilakkuma Store. My sister-in-law LOVEs Rilakkuma.

But mama and our son had to go to Plarail Shop next to it.

The biggest target, Moomin House Cafe! It is almost in the Tokyo Sky Tree station (I wish the name of the station stayed "Narihira-bashi"...much nicer), but out of the gate (no tickets needed). We waited in the line for a while and were seated before getting too hungry.

Inside the shop/cafe. It's rather small, but we felt like we were in the moomin house.

Moomin mama was sitting next to us, and my son was so happy. But when we looked carefully, she had blue eyes...it's Moomin wearing mama's apron!! (Mama's eyes are green FYI).

Pudding with a souvenir cup. I didn't know there was caramel syrup in the bottom so I ate most of the custard part without the sauce...

It was fun! There are so many shops down there (that Carl got lost)! But I regret that there aren't many traditional Japanese sweets shop.

Enoshima Aquarium

For my son, who loves vehicles particularly trains,
we had a little day trip.

564779_10150847621036553_769316567_
Shona monorail, from Ofuna to Shonan Enoshima. It was the first ride for me too!

551185_10150847621791553_1335441141
Enoshima Dentetsu (Enoden) Train. It's rather cute!

546693_10150847622091553_865508319_
We can easily find Enoden Enoshima station from Shonan-Enoshima station (monorail). We crossed the Enoden rails and kept walking toward the sea. We saw Odakyu Enoshima Line Katase-Enoshima station on our right and arrived at the entrance to Enoshima. However, we didn't go there this time. (I wonder if I have ever visited Enoshima before...).

Our destination is this! Enoshima Aquarium. I don't remember but my parents took me (and my sister) there when we're little. This large glass tank was stunning!

As soon as we entered the exhibition room, we found a queue for a photo shooting spot. A cameraperson takes our photo, a fake moray eel in hands, with her camera and then with our camera. When we leave the staff called out "here's your photo" and it's written ¥1000. They said it's our choice to buy it or not, but it is difficult to say "No" looking at the photo already printed out... though we didn't buy it.

428519_10150847623416553_369223319_
A lot of fish! Our Pierre said "aji" which is his favorite fish to eat (Japanese jack mackerel). He calls all the fish "aji". Academically saying, an overextention.

While waiting for a dolphin show, we had a sardine burger, a whitebait burger and a turtle-shaped melon pan bread. They were cute and yummy.

We loved the show very much! Our son wanted to move around so it was hard to stay him there. And he also found popcorns, which Carl bought, are delicious. I don't want him to eat too much because they're usually too salty.

Penguins.

581170_10150847630846553_1726312601
And in the end, we went to the beach. Carl and Pierre soaked their feet in the sea, but Pierre seemed to be afraid of the waves. Carl said that he felt the seawater in Japan warmer. I wonder if the seawater in France is cold even in a mid-summer?

We used Enoden to go home. Pierre got some capsule PraRail of Enoden trains and looked so happy.

By the way, my favorite Japanese biscuit shop Komatsuya was closed and turned into a real estate office.. Although I found the biscuits at Kiosk in the Kamakura station, I feel so sad.

Baby Stuff in Beijing

We visited only Carrefour, but it's always fun to know the cultural difference in baby-care!

Diaper
Diapers.

264002_10150240976961553_528876552_
We use Moony in Japan, too! I was a kind of happy to find them in China. Of course, there're Panpers and we bought one.

270890_10150240976586553_528876552_
Shampoos and creams for babies. Many Doraemon products! I guess he's more popular than in Japan?

267211_10150240977126553_528876552_
Baby foods. Mostly by the global companies like Heinz and Nestle. There are four steps for baby food and each product has a mark with the number of the step.

268457_10150240961541553_528876552_
Baby goods. Bottles, etc... There weren't many clothes, so we bought a pair of socks.

261719_10150240963911553_528876552_
Baby strollers. We bought a cheaper and smaller stroller just before the trip so that it'd be fine to us if it broke. Maybe we could have bought it in China (it was made in China in any way).

By the way....

Just like ten years ago, I saw a little boy wearing a pants whose crotch is wide open. I thought, Still!?? Moreover, I found a boy wearing only a T-shirt in the campus (why???). All the babies we saw in Beijing had short hair and I wondered if Chinese babies had less hair... but it seems they're cut in short on purpose. My mother said it might be a tradition to cut the first hair so that beautiful hair will grow in the future. Really? That's true that it is easier to wash baby's hair if it's short. Parents in Beijing prefer reasonable way?

Beijing Day 3 Petit Sightseeing

We visited the brother's dormitory room, too. A room per person for foreign students, but 3-4 people/room for Chinese students. I heard that there used to be 8 people in a room before...so it got a lot better?

268010_10150241431651553_52887655_3
We had a light meal at Starbucks. And I found the original yuebin!! But it was expensive... Yuebin means "moon cake", which is a cake for moon observing in September.

We reserved a room at a hotel near the airport as we were to leave early the following morning. So we didn't have time... We just visited Tian 'an men. The taxi driver was kind enough to wait for about an hour (of course, we paid), so we didn't have to bring all our baggage.

We got back on the taxi and headed for the hotel. We drove through Beijing city and I was surprised to see the changes in ten years. We dined at a restaurant in the hotel. Beijing duck was sold out and we ordered another duck which was good, too. Well, I was disappointed that I couldn't have things I wanted this time not only the duck.

Beijing Day 3 Graduation

Chinesebreakfast
The breakfast buffet at the hotel was mainly western style, but there were some Chinese food, too. I love congee with youtiao (fried bread stick), and there was also centry-egg (pidan)!! Pidan might not be a typical breakfast, but I had some. Maman and Carl said they'd never tried it before.

Port
The main gate of the university. There were students to graduate everywhere. The campus was too large to walk around.

Gym
Graduation ceremony was held in the gym, but the staff said only the students were allowed in the gym and families have to watch it on the screen in another building. We had to return in the summer heat...

Hall Mainbuilding

It was like this... not so exciting. And there was obviously only one camera in the gym and couldn't capture all the students receiving degree paper which went on at several spots. Maman said she couldn't see her son..

Arch

Pierre couldn't stay there for long, of course, and we took him out. The white gate must be one of the sightseeing spots in the university. My brother in-law said there's a beautiful garden, but we didn't have enough time:-(

It seemed to be the same in China that students receive flower bouquets at graduation so we went to the college shop to get one. I explained the florist that our brother is graduating and she showed me a big one (100 RMB) but it looked too big so I asked smaller one. It was 60 RMB ( = less than 1000 yen)!! It never happens in Japan with 4-5 big lilies.

Graduation

Felicitations!!

Beijing Day 2 Dinner

Dinner1
Back from the zoo, we had dinner at a Chinese restaurant near the hotel, with our brother's friend (French) and his fiancee (Chinese) .

By the way, our hotel was near the university of the brother and also used by Carl's company for business trips. So we paid at the rate of his company's (which was cheaper). There are many technical companies around the university. It seemed that Carl's company was also in the building where we had dined.

In addition, the Chinese lady also speak French, so the common language at the table was French...
It was really tough for me: outsidein Chinese (we used English to explain complicated things but I don't think people outside hotels use English in Beijing...), in French with family, in Japanese with Carl... I couldn't switch the languages so sometimes I talked to the brother in Japanese or French and Chinese mixed up in a sentence.

Dinner2yangin
Yanjing beer! I didn't know the draught and bottled one. When I visited China with college mates, they drank Yanjing or Qingdao beer... I couldn't drink much so I don't know very well;-p I haven't drunk any alcohol for the past several years.

Dinner3
They're soooo good!
Although I asked if they had "guopa"(fried rice pieces with sauce) at every restaurant we had meal but there wasn't!! WHY?? I really wanted to have it, it's my favorite! I like the sound "Jiwww" when the hot sauce was poured over the rice.
And I also couldn't find Babaocha (tea). Are they not popular anymore?

And we witnessed the first "oui oui" of Pierre here!

Beijing Day 2 Beijing Zoo

Our second main purpose in Beijing, Beijing Zoo!! I visited there to see giant pandas ten years ago, too.

At noon, we met up with maman who secretly (but legally) came to Beijing and we did "surprise!!" to our brother;-) Then we had lunch at a Chinese restaurant (where obviously serves good huo-guo = kind of spicy pot au feu but I could hardly have it in the summer heat), and took a taxi to the zoo.

Our little boy was in his dream on the way....

Beijing Day 2 at Carrefour

We started the second day with going shopping. We brought a lot of food and drinks for our little one, but we thought we should get more water as it's very hot outside.

Zhongguancun Carrefour Uniqlo
Carrefour left Japan, too, but they have a lot of stores in China. They call it Jia le fu in Chinese. Pierre woke us up early so we decided to go there on foot, which took about an hour...

There were only two subway lines (central and loop) ten years ago but it has been expanded so we saw many stations on the way. To my regret, we couldn't use the subway or a bus as it was easier to use taxi with Pierre this time. I used buses sooooo many times, they're so cheap (1-2 RMB = 15-30 JPY).

In fact, I stayed the east part of Beijing last time and this time it was (northern) west, so I don't really know how much the city has changed. Anyways, there're so many huge, tall buildings. And we somehow got to Carrefour.

Bdcake Esc Lunchpack
It seems that we can order birthday cake. As my brother-in-law said, we rarely see patisseries in Beijing, not like in Japan.
There're products along the escalators, too. I know Chinese people are good marchants!
I didn't expect but there were various breads. I know this type of bread...they're quite popular in Japan (but I believe it's not the same company.)

Xigua Softner Market
A big watermelon!!
My favorite "softner" shelves!! I bought one of Unilever's but it leaked out a bit in my baggage...
Carrefour, they're from France but was a Chinese supermarket inside.

Kaoya Pockey Doraemon
Beijing Duck!! I regret that we couldn't enjoy it this time...
Many Japanese biscuits! They're from Japanese company but made in China:-) Various flavors that are not available in Japan and I wanted them all!!
Doraemon Cheese. Doraemon is popular in China, too.

I wanted to do more shopping but we didn't have time.. There're so many shops around there.

I love shopping at supermarket in foreign countries!
I also checked out baby stuff but I will post it again later.
